Looking Back At National   Fishing Week 2008

National Fishing week 2008 saw thousands of new anglers having a go at a sport that can last a lifetime.

Thanks to the hard work of coaches, clubs and fisheries all over the UK men, women, young people, pensioners and people with different abilities and different ethnic identities were all made welcome.

You can see how they got on by scrolling down the pictures below...

The picture above shows the Mayoress making an early catch at the Barlow Fisheries event on the first Saturday of the week.  Her chain of office, suit  and smart footwear weren't the recommended kit  for angling  but she was soon reeling them in!

David Moore, Chairman of the ADB, not a novice  but he can't usually manage a 7lb 1 oz bream ......

...while the picture below taken at one of Border Fisheries events shows that angling is certainly not just for the blokes...

Not what people from other areas expect of the Tees but these women from Thornaby knew it would be good fishing...

The weather wasn't always good but that didn't spoil the fishing...

Sometimes you really need to concentrate...

More pics please!

If you have any photos of your NFW 2008 event send them in to info@nationalfishingweek.co.uk  and we'll see if we can make you a star!

Rick Stein Backs NFW 2008

Rick Stein the Padstow based chef  and TV star has used sea food and fresh fish in many of his most famous recipes and  he's keen to see more people cooking the catch.

He was happy to support National Fishing Week  and said,

"It would be great to see more people getting to the coast to catch and cook  these delicious British fish".

What is it all about ?

National Fishing Week is a celebration of the sport of  angling.  See the news page for updates on some of the events happening around the country.

All over the country qualified coaches give their time to welcome newcomers to this marvellous sport. Fees are waived and tackle is often made available free of charge too.

Events are organised around the UK to show people who have never fished before how to do it.

If you'd like to try fishing then now is  your big chance.

Had A Break from Fishing?

If you've had a break from fishing because of work or family commitments and aren't sure about getting back in to the sport National Fishing Week is for you too.

Many of the events offer a chance to try a new type of fishing or just revive some old skills all with free qualified support available if you need it. There's no rod license to pay for either so you've really got nothing to lose by giving fishing another try!

We are hoping for good weather but take a brolly just in case !

What is actually going to happen?

From  19-27th July there will be hundreds of locally organised angling events offering non-anglers the opportunity to be taught how to fish, FREE OF CHARGE, by a qualified licensed Coach and within a controlled environment.

Are you a potential Event Organiser?

National Fishing Week falls apart without the assistance of Event organisers. We are therefore searching for volunteers to run National Fishing Week Events.
Organisers can be Angling Clubs, Schools, Tackle Shops, Fisheries, in fact anyone with an interest in Fishing. Many clubs and societies use National Fishing Week as a way of increasing membership.
